MAWA is pleased to offer its members comprehensive insurance coverage through Sport Manitoba which covers many accident and injury costs not covered by the Manitoba provincial health plan.
All registered participants (coaches, players, officials and volunteers) are covered for accident and injury expenses, rehabilitation including physiotherapy, athletic therapy and chiropractic care, including ambulatory costs. This coverage is on a second-pay basis meaning that if you have other coverage place such as Blue Cross or extended health care through an employer or school, all claims must be placed through them first. Any remaining balance not covered by your primary insurer can then be submitted to us providing there is an open claim made within the time allowed. If you do not have other coverage in place your medical claims may be placed through us on a first-insurer basis.
This insurance is provided on a reimbursement basis - meaning you must pay for your treatments or costs and submit your claim receipts for reimbursement.
ALL REHABILITATION EXPENSE CLAIMS (Physiotherapy, Athletic Therapy or Chiropractic) MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A REFERRAL FROM A PHYSICIAN. "Recommendations" from a physiotherapist, athletic therapist or chiropractor will result in your claim for reimbursement being declined.
All claims for coverage must be received in our office within 90 days of the injury. If at the time of the injury you are unsure whether you will require ongoing rehabilitation treatments, you should still submit the CLAIM FORM immediately to have a case opened. Once a claim is opened you are covered for a period of 12 (twelve) months for any additional or unexpected medical expenses as a direct result of the original injury.
